One of the hardest parts of creating content is deciding WHAT to post… What content do you want to put out there? Obviously, it has to be content that attracts your target audience… But where do you even start for this?
The first thing we do when we start working with a client is doing a “brain dump.” We ask questions like…
- What podcasts does our target audience listen to?
- What books do they read?
- What tv shows do they follow?
- What magazines are they interested in?
- What movies do they watch?
- What type of music do they listen to?
By asking these questions, we can determine what their interests are and this gives us a starting point. Now, we want to determine what topics would everyone in our target audience relate to. Think… “coffee” for young moms, not getting enough sleep! This is where we’re going to center a lot of our focus around.
When creating content, we want it to have a specific purpose. We want it to provide value… Value could be something that educates, entertains or engages.
You might be reading, thinking…. But what about SPECIFICS. What types of content ideas are there that we can use?
Here’s a shortlist…
- Quotes
- Memes
- Articles
- Videos – reshared, pre-recorded or live!
- Tips, tricks or hints.
- “Did you know” posts.
- This or that posts.
- Open-ended questions…

In all of your content, you want to include a call to action. You want to encourage your audience to engage with your content. Ask questions. Encourage them to tag a friend. Tell them they can learn more by clicking a link. Tell your readers what you want them to do. If you don’t give them directions, you’re unlikely to see the results you’re looking for!
By creating engaging content that is related to relatable topics, your target audience will automatically be attracted to your content, making the difficult part, a lot easier.
